Optimum Unveils New App to Help Customers Find WiFi Hotspots, New Ad Campaign Featuring HotSpot The Dog
Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) today announced the launch of a new app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices that makes it easy for customers to find the nearest Optimum WiFi hotspot. The company also launched a new animated ad campaign featuring HotSpot the dog, who educates his owner Ben on the benefits of fast and free Optimum WiFi.
The new app, which is now available as a free download in the Apple App Store, enables users to carry out quick, advanced, and “Near Me” searches for indoor and outdoor hotspots whether or not their iOS device is connected to the web.
Available to all of Cablevisions Optimum Online high-speed Internet customers at no extra charge, Optimum WiFi delivers wireless Internet access at speeds of up to 15 megabits-per-second (Mbps) downstream and 4 Mbps upstream, making it dramatically faster than expensive 3G and 4G cellular data services. Cablevision customers use Optimum WiFi more than a million times every day to connect to the Internet.
Optimum WiFi is an important extension of our broadband service, and we want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to find and use this free access when away from their wired home or business locations, said Timothy Farrell, Cablevisions Vice President of Wireless Development. Our new app will help guide customers to the nearest Optimum WiFi hotspot, just like their own personal version of HotSpot the dog, who helps his owner Ben stay connected through Optimum WiFi.
Using the Optimum WiFi Finder app, customers are able to get directions to the closest Optimum WiFi hotspot from their current location in map view. Other features include the ability to save a list of favorite locations, reference a history of locations, and access help. Search results are presented as map view when connected, a list view when not connected, and a detailed view of single site locations including full information on businesses that feature indoor Optimum WiFi hotspots. A link to the app can be found here.
Last month, Cablevision, along with Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Bright House Networks announced that they will enable each others high-speed Internet customers to access their respective WiFi networks, totaling more than 50,000 hotspots across the country, allowing customers to enjoy an ever broader mobile data experience. More information on Optimum WiFi, including detailed interactive coverage maps, is available at OptimumWiFi.com.
